West Ham pulled out of signing Bernard due to wage demands

West Ham United have had a far busier transfer window than they have been used to recently and will be pleased with the work they have managed to get done.

Manuel Pellegrini has made a number of additions to his side already to help improve the squad and strengthen their ambitions of reaching their targets for the upcoming Premier League season.

The Chilean is hopeful that he will be able to announce a couple more additions to his team this summer, however, reports are suggesting one man, in particular, will not be joining him at the London Stadium.

Claret and Hugh, which is a website that has proven reliable for all things West Ham, has stated that reports concerning the imminent transfer of Bernard are false and the Shakhtar Donetsk winger will not be joining them.

The claim that the player’s wage demands are the reason for the club’s decision to pull out of a deal for the Brazilian, with it thought that the 25-year-old wanted around £200,000 a week.

West Ham allegedly dropped their interest in Bernard last month and took the decision to chase Andriy Yarmolenko instead, a player they have subsequently signed this week.

The Verdict:

A player of Bernard’s quality would have been a real marquee signing for West Ham and would have signalled Pellegrini’s intent of turning the Hammers into a squad worth being concerned about.

However, his wage demands, as allegedly seen with Yaya Toure recently as well, have stopped any chances of a move of that magnitude happening and has seen the Irons act swiftly by bringing in a different target instead.
