It is no secret in the Football Transfer Tavern that West Ham United have been looking to sign a new defender, and news emerging from German newspaper Bild reveals they may have achieved their target.
Sam Allardyce has raided German club Wolfsburg to sign Austrian centre back Emmanuel Pogatetz, with the player set to undergo a medical at Upton Park.
Pogatetz has Premier League experience having previously spent five years at Middlesbrough before his Bundesliga move.
The 30-year-old is expected to join on loan for the rest of the season with a view to a permanent move in the summer.
Pogatetz is capable of playing at centre back or full back, and is expected to provide competition for Joey O’Brien at left back, following injuries to George McCartney and Dan Potts.
The player only joined Wolfsburg in the summer, but has struggled for regular first team football, having made just eight Bundesliga appearances in the first half of the season.
The Hammers are expected to pay a £500,000 loan fee, with the option of purchasing the player for a further £2 million in the summer.
