West Ham United could be on the verge of adding a striker to their ranks this January.
Celta de Vigo’s Maxi Gomez has been heavily linked with a move to the London Stadium this winter and his impressive form makes him an exciting prospect.
The 22-year-old has been in incredible form for the La Liga strugglers this season, having hit nine goals and providing five assists in his 19 games so far as he continues his impressive stats from last season’s campaign.
And, according to a report by The London Evening Standard, West Ham appear to be ready to break their transfer record for the third time this season to land him – with Issa Diop and Felipe Anderson arrivals in the summer smashing the previous records set.
It is claimed The Hammers are prepared to pay the £43.5million release clause for the Uruguay international, however, it is claimed they will loan him back to the Spanish outfit for the remainder of the season.
Gomez possibly joining in the summer could raise a few eyebrows at the London Stadium and could be a decision that does not make much sense.
The Hammers are largely inconsistent this season, compounded by their defeat to AFC Wimbledon in the FA Cup on Saturday.
West Ham, who will now likely play for seventh in the Premier League, would clearly benefit from having Gomez and his goals in the side from January, rather than have to wait for him to arrive in the summer.
