For the West Ham fans in the Transfer Tavern, the January transfer window is quickly becoming the most important part of the season…
The Hammers have struggled this season, and whilst Bilic has managed to guide them away from the relegation zone – times are still very tough at the London Stadium.
This season was supposed to bring a new confidence and optimism to the West Ham faithful, yet they have been left with disappointment so far – and Bilic must change that.
With half a year to turn his season around, the West Ham boss clearly already has his eye on a few new players as the window looks to re-open – and it would appear as though he is willing to play the long game with 1 target in particular.
According to the Mirror, West Ham are remaining defiant in their quest to bring Sunderland striker Jermaine Defoe to the London Stadium – with Slaven Bilic ready to hold out until the end of the window to land his man.
Sunderland, who reportedly may have to sell to buy in January, will be hesitant to do the deal – but West Ham appear set on their priority target – and their funds and the prospect of returning to the club may be too much to resist for both Defoe and the Black Cats.
There is no doubting how vital Defoe would be for the Hammers, considering how prolific he has been in an otherwise very disappointing Sunderland squad. He has already scored 8 Premier League goals this season, and if he were to play alongside the likes of Payet – our landlord thinks that he could score even more.
