The West Ham United fans in the Transfer Tavern are wondering if they will have any strikers left by the time the transfer window slams shut at the end of the month. All three of West Ham’s senior centre forwards have been linked with moves away from the club this January and the Hammers are reportedly considering offers for all of them.
Andy Carroll is wanted by Chelsea. Javier Hernandez has been disappointing but clubs from abroad like Besiktas will be keen to snap him up. Diafra Sakho wants to leave and West Ham will let him go if the price is right. Meanwhile, Andre Ayew – who can play up front – is also linked with an exit.
If one or more of these strikers leave this month as expected, West Ham will need to spend money to bring another forward in. This summer, they were interested in Olivier Giroud and they should reopen their interest in the Arsenal hit man.
Giroud is still down the order at Arsenal and he needs to get out this month so that he is playing regular football ahead of the World Cup this summer. His spot in the France team is under threat with the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Antoine Griezmann and Karim Benzema among the other strikers in contention.
You know what you can expect from the £18m-rated (via Transfermarkt) Giroud. His hold up play is really good and he can muck in with the goals too. The 31-year-old has 73 goals in 179 Premier League appearances for the Gunners with a considerable number of those games coming from the bench.
Giroud suits West Ham’s style of play better than Hernandez does and he would be a great replacement for Andy Carroll. This move will be tough to pull off but the Hammers should definitely explore the possibility.
