West Ham United will need to add a striker to their ranks if they are to take things to another level at the London Stadium, whilst inconsistency is another area that Manuel Pellegrini will have to sort out. A defeat to Cardiff City following their strong win against Newcastle United will have only have highlighted those concerns further.
However, it appears one man that the Hammers have had on their radar for a while still remains on their wish list ahead of the summer transfer window.
What’s the News?
According to a report by Correio de Manha, Moussa Marega is still a target for West Ham, although it is understood they may have to compete with Leicester City for his signature.
The 27-year-old has scored six goals in his last seven games, which included efforts against AS Roma in the Champions League and helping him join a list of strikers to have scored in six consecutive matches in the European competition – taking his total tally to 17 for the season.
The forward is understood to have a release clause within his contract, although the Hammers could have to pay around 40million (£34m) to activate it.
With reports having suggested in the past that West Ham could look to undertake a mass exodus of their current attacking options in the summer, it comes as no surprise to see a forward appear on their radar.
And, Marega could be an excellent addition to the squad at the London Stadium in the summer as he would be an individual that can offer plenty to the Hammers and their quest of achieving their aims.
The Mali international is a powerful striker that is extremely good in the air and can also be used as a target man as he can hold defenders off when fighting for the ball, meaning he could suit the style of play Pellegrini likes to adopt.
Most importantly, the 27-year-old has shown over the past couple of seasons that he can find the back of the net on a regular basis, having scored 23 times in the previous campaign, followed by the 17 so far this season.
Just to make things even more difficult for defences, Marega also has bundles of pace and could be a dangerous threat when it comes to potential counter-attacking situations, something the Hammers could find themselves involved with at times.
The Mali international would have to be considered an upgrade on the current options that Pellegrini has at his disposal and should be someone he should desperately look to bring to West Ham in the summer.
