West Ham fans have been reasonably buoyant in the Transfer Tavern during the international break such was the importance of their side’s last victory.
Slaven Bilic’s men went into their clash with Swansea City last time out in the Premier League’s bottom three, but a Diafra Sakho strike in the final minute sealed a much-needed 1-0 win for the Hammers, in turn propelling them up to 15th in the division.
And our resident West Ham supporters will be hoping their team can make it back-to-back victories at Burnley this weekend, and there may be some more good news for those Hammers fans lining up at the bar if a recent report from The Daily Mirror is anything to go by.
And that’s because they report that Bilic’s side, alongside Bournemouth and Tottenham, are interested in PSV Eindhoven winger Steven Bergwijn.
The 19-year-old came up through the ranks at the Dutch giants to earn his senior debut for the club back in October 2014, in which he laid on an assist in their 5-1 success over Almere City in the Dutch Cup.
And the winger has since gone from strength to strength with 51 further first team appearances for PSV, in which time he has bagged four goals and laid on five assists, two goals and one assist of which have come in his fast start to this season.
And it appears that his fine form has attracted the interest of some clubs in the Premier League, with Bilic’s Hammers alongside Bournemouth and Tottenham in the race for the 19-year-old.
But whether any of the aforementioned trio firm up their interest in January very much remains to be seen.
Landlord’s verdict: It has been quite the rise for PSV Eindhoven’s Steven Bergwijn in the last few years, going from a complete unknown to someone regularly turning out for the Dutch heavyweights.
And it wasn’t going to be long, especially with goals already this term, for clubs around Europe to find out about the 19-year-old starlet, and that’s exactly what has happened, with Bournemouth, Tottenham, and West Ham reportedly keeping tabs on his progress.
The latter has a rich history of bringing young players through the club and giving them a chance, and with first team opportunities more likely at the London Stadium than at Spurs, it’s a deal the Hammers may well seek to strike in January.
