The West Ham fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that their side will improve this season…
Last term was one to forget for the Hammers, with the club’s move to the London Stadium not proving as fruitful as expected. Indeed, the Hammers struggled to adjust to life in Stratford, and so they spent much of the campaign battling off the threat of relegation.
They managed to do that comfortably by the end of the season, and having kept the faith in Slaven Bilic, the fans in the pub are expecting a push for a top 8 finish.
In order to ensure a successful season, West Ham need to try and secure a few more signings before the end of the summer, and according to the Telegraph, they are looking to do just that.
The Telegraph reports that West Ham have made a club record bid of £27.1 million for Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho. It is noted that representatives of the club are currently in Portugal in an effort to thrash out a deal, with both clubs said to optimistic that an agreement will be reached.
Carvalho has been steadily building up his reputation over the last few years, having become renowned as one of Europe’s most talented midfielders. Strong, agile and technical – the midfielder is perfectly suited to the Premier League.
A deal has yet to come to fruition, but if the Portuguese midfielder does make the move, he will, of course, join the likes of Pablo Zabaleta and Javier Hernandez in moving to the London Stadium this summer.
A move for Carvalho would certainly be huge for West Ham, with the likes of Arsenal touted with a move for him this summer.
He has built a successful career for both club and country, and at just 25-years-old, the best is certainly yet to come.
West Ham are clearly looking to improve this season, and spending big money on players like Carvalho is the only way that they will be able to continue to compete.
