West Ham said to be getting serious in Edin Dzeko - Latest News

It is no secret that West Ham United need a new striker in the summer to spearhead their attack next season. The likes of Marko Arnautovic and Javier Hernandez have not been consistent enough for the Hammers, whilst Andy Carroll and Lucas Perez’s time at the London Stadium appears to be over as they rarely get a look in.

One story regarding Edin Dzeko continues to do the rounds in the Italian press and it would appear that things are starting to gather a little pace regarding West Ham and the Bosnia international.

What’s the News?

According to Il Messaggero (via Sport Witness), the Premier League side are understood to be continuing their chase for the 33-year-old and are believed to be ‘getting serious’ in their attempts to reunite him with Manuel Pellegrini.

However, it is claimed that he is ‘waiting’ for Inter Milan, which could give West Ham a problem in trying to convince him to return to England.

The Verdict:

The Dzeko story to West Ham is one that does not appear to be going away anytime soon and definitely seems as though it is picking up some traction as the summer transfer window starts to edge closer.

And, it would be difficult to argue against the idea of him joining the club in the summer, as he would significantly improve the side with his attacking ability.

The Bosnian already knows Pellegrini from their successful time together at Manchester City and would likely be able to hit the ground running at the London Stadium, whilst his experience of leading a Premier League’s frontline could seriously benefit the Hammers.

He has proven that he can find the back of the net on a regular basis for whoever he plays for and with the likes of Manuel Lanzini and Felipe Anderson on the flanks, it would not be difficult to see him replicating those years in east London.

However, it would not be unfair if there were questions about his age and what he could bring to the club in the future. At 33-years-old, it would be safe to say that he only has a couple of years left in him at the top-level and would not be the man to solve their striking woes at the London Stadium in the long-term.

The interest from Inter Milan and the suggestion that he is ‘waiting’ could prove to be a difficult obstacle for West Ham to overcome, as remaining in the Serie A may appeal to him more than making a return to the Premier League.
