The West Ham fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperate for David Moyes to bring a bit of firepower to the London Stadium. The Hammers have lacked potency going forward this term, with top players like Javier Hernandez and Andy Carroll struggling to find their form at present.
Clearly, then, a new offensive signing in January would make sense, and according to the Daily Mail, one man that could be attracting the Hammers is Chelsea attacker Michy Batshuayi.
The Daily Mail reports – within their recap notes of the game – that David Moyes was present at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday as Chelsea took on Norwich in the FA Cup – and he was casting a keen eye over the Belgian.
In truth, the Scotsman was likely to have been divided by what he saw on the night. Though, until the closing stages, Batshuayi looked set to be the matchwinner for the Blues, his general play on the night was hardly enough to get Moyes’ pulse racing.
He looked poor on the ball, he struggled to hold up play and he rarely got a chance to shine. That being said, he did score, and so he clearly knows where the net is – and that can’t really be said for a few of West Ham’s other attackers at present.
Rated at £22.5 million by Transfer Markt, a move for Batshuiayi would represent a significant financial risk, but perhaps Chelsea could be open to a loan move for him – particularly given their apparent interest in West Ham attacker Andy Carroll.
West Ham fans may be against this deal, but it’s tough to judge Batshuayi on one night.
Indeed, it’s pretty tough to judge him on his entire Chelsea career thus far. The Belgian international has only been given a handful of starts since Antonio Conte came to the club, and so whether he’d improve if given a longer run in the team remains to be seen.
Clearly, he’s a talented player, and perhaps Moyes thinks he could be the man to unlock that talent.
