West Ham set for shock move for former Manchester United defender

RafaelWest Ham fans are puzzled in the Football Transfer Tavern as the landlord has informed that they are chasing former Manchester United defender.

According to the Daily Star, the Hammers are pursuing Rafael, who was sold to Lyon last summer by Louis van Gaal.

But since his move to Ligue 1 he has put on some impressive displays which has led to speculation of him returning to the Premier League.

West Ham seem keen to strengthen this area of the squad as they look to prepare for life without Carl Jenkinson, whose loan expires at the end of the season.

Last transfer window Slaven Bilic signed Sam Byram from Leeds United and he may feel he is not ready to jump straight into Premier League action just yet, making Rafael ideal competition for Byram.

Bilic has even opted to play Michail Antonio at right back, rather than his favoured position on the wing, which is not ideal.

West Ham fans. Do you think Rafael would be a good addition to the side? Let us know your thoughts below.
