West Ham set to beat Chelsea to seal deal for 6ft 1 midfielder

SongThe Telegraph have managed to put smiles on the faces of Chelsea fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern for the most unlikely of reasons, after claiming that the Blues are set to miss out on Alex Song.

The West Ham United loanee seems to be set for a permanent move to Upton Park, and while Chelsea will obviously have to either keep the players they currently have or turn their attentions elsewhere, as our landlord notes, we cannot really see this being too big of a blow for the club.

Barcelona are believed to want Song off their books and will take an offer of around £5 million from the Hammers for the player, who is happy to stay in London and will willingly join West Ham should no other club come in for him.

While Song is home-grown (and we all know the attraction that provides) we do not think he is good enough for the Blues or Manchester City who were another of his rumoured suitors.

Chelsea fans…… Is this actually good news? West Ham fans….. Would you welcome Song back on a permanent deal? Let us know your thoughts and opinions in the comments below!
