West Ham should look to take a summer punt on this former Premier League flop

West Ham will be hoping for a far more positive season next time out as the club look to put behind them a miserable start to last season and get some momentum going at the London Stadium.

The Hammers fans here in the Tavern have been making plenty of noise since the end of the season, with many of the fans over by the pool table hoping to see a host of new signings come through the door this summer.

Our landlord has been having plenty of conversations with the Hammers faithful though, and he thinks with a few quality additions, they could make quite the rise up the Premier League table next term.

One player who has been brought up this week in conversation is former Liverpool striker Iago Aspas, who has been on fire for Celta Vigo last year. Aspas banged in 19 goals as Celta made a good run at the European places in La Liga.

While he was a complete flop during his time at Anfield a few seasons ago, Aspas seems to have rediscovered his goalscoring touch, and another crack at the Premier League could be just what the Spaniard needs.

Aspas might be a gamble, but he would no doubt have a point to prove in England, and Hammers manager Slaven Bilic could well be wise to take a punt on Aspas and see if he can bring his goalscoring touch from La Liga into the English game.

West Ham fans, what do you think? Would you sign Aspas? Let us know in the comments!
