It was bit of a tumultuous season at West Ham last year, with a move to the new stadium and the saga around Dimitri Payet overshadowing things on the field in the main.
Manager Slaven Bilic though managed to keep his dignity and his job though throughout the campaign, and he will be hoping for a successful summer of recruitment, where he will seek to add some quality players to help his side climb the table next season.
The Hammers fans here in the Transfer Tavern have been coming in in their droves this past week, and have been spending plenty of money at the bar. Our landlord has used this as an opportunity to get his word in with them, and it is clear that the fans expect plenty of activity in the market this summer.
One player who sprung to mind during conversation this week is current Hull City defender Harry Maguire, who impressed for the Tigers last season with a string of impressive performances.
Still in his early 20’s, Maguire has plenty of time to develop into a full England international and a top quality Premier League defender, and a move to West Ham could be of interest to the former Sheffield United man.
Maguire has started to show a maturity in his game which suggests he can cut it right at the top level, and moving to someone like West Ham might well be the next logical step in his career. With Hull now in the Championship, he will no doubt crave Premier League football, and it’s a move which could make sense all around.
