The Football Transfer Tavern punters were left unsurprised by Vitesse Arnhem striker Wilfried Bony playing down speculation that he will move to Russia or West Ham United in the summer, as reported by talkSPORT.
Bony featured at the African Cup of Nations for the favourites Ivory Coast last month as they reached the quarter finals but was constantly linked with a move away from Vitesse Arnhem in the transfer window.
Bony stayed put, however the 24-year-old is now West Ham’s number one transfer target for the summer but the Hammers may be unable to compete financially with the Russian clubs who are also after the talented forward.
The East London club are currently set to start next season with just one first team striker as loanees Andy Carroll, Marouane Chamakh and Wellington Paulista will currently re-join their parent clubs and out of form Carlton Cole is coming to the end of his contract.
Sam Allardyce, who is also nearing the end of his deal at the club, will be keen to add class to his frontline as the Hammers have failed to find the net as regular as they should have this season.
Bony attracted the attention of Newcastle United, Chelsea and Liverpool over the past two years by notching 12 goals last season as well as 16 already in this campaign.
The striker however claims he is unaware of any links with him leaving the club and he is unsure whether a move to Russia would suit him.
“I do not know anything about these rumours. I’m focused on my career with Vitesse, then we will see,” Bony told De Telegraaf.
“Is my future in Russia? I do not know.”
