West Ham United will meet Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night at the London Stadium as they look to book their place in the quarter-finals of the League Cup.
The Hammers will want to go as far as possible in the competition and will feel that they have a chance of overcoming Spurs, given that they played against Manchester City as recently as Monday night.
Manuel Pellegrini’s side are coming off a Premier League game against Leicester City, in which they will feel they dropped two points in, and the Chilean will want to see a reaction from his team.
According to the club’s official website, the Chilean has admitted that he takes the competition seriously and revealed that his team have been on the training pitch since Sunday preparing for the game.
However, they will be without Mark Noble for their second game against Tottenham in 11 days, after the midfielder was shown a straight red card against Leicester at the weekend and will serve a three-match ban.
Pellegrini still holds out on the hope that Pedro Obiang may be available for the clash, although he could turn to the young trio of Grady Diangana, Joe Powell and Conor Coventry after they all impressed in the previous round against Macclesfield Town, with the match coming too soon for Jack Wilshere.
West Ham will feel that they have a great chance of getting a result from the game against Tottenham, especially as their opponents only played as recently as Monday, but Noble’s absence could be a huge blow.
However, it is always likely that Mauricio Pochettino will field a different team and it remains to be seen what Pellegrini decides to do when the two sides meet at the London Stadium.
It could be an ideal opportunity to use the academy stars in the game as they get a taste of action against one of the top clubs, whilst in the later stages of a domestic competition, however, should Obiang be fit, then the Spaniard will likely come into the team, especially with Noble starting his suspension.
