West Ham United might not have too much left to play for as the season draws to an end, however, a London derby against Tottenham Hotspur should be more than enough motivation to ensure they are at the races.
Manuel Pellegrini’s side head to the New White Hart Lane Stadium for Saturday lunchtime’s showdown and will be looking to be the first away team to score a goal at the host’s new home.
What’s the News?
And, according to a match preview by Sky Sports, Pellegrini could have a number of his players back available for the London derby.
Manuel Lanzini, Javier Hernandez and Aaron Cresswell all managed to return to training this week from various knocks and are thought to be in contention.
Jack Wilshere could also feature for the Hammers after he managed to make a successful return to action against Leicester City last weekend.
Having the quartet available for the London derby against Tottenham can only be considered as encouraging news for Pellegrini and West Ham.
Lanzini has the ability to provide an attacking threat in the final third with his creativity and the skills he has to dribble with the ball and create opportunities, whilst Hernandez has been in some good form and has shown he can still find the back of the net, which is not necessarily something that can be said about some of their other strikers currently.
Cresswell’s return will also be welcomed as he would have to be considered a better option at left-back than Arthur Masuaku and could look to keep Spurs’ wingers at bay and limit the chances they have to try and get down the byline and whip in crosses into the box.
Wilshere will have experienced plenty of high-intensity games against Tottenham in the past during his time with Arsenal and could be a vital component to West Ham’s midfield as he could play a key role in helping with how Pellegrini’s side could look to set up and play on Saturday lunchtime.
