West Ham thought to be interested in Roberto Inglese

West Ham United have had a relatively successful campaign so far as Manuel Pellegrini looks to take the London Stadium outfit to the next level after being back in the summer with a large amount of financial power.

The Hammers brought in players like Felipe Anderson and Issa Diop, who both broke club-record transfer fees, but it would be fair to say that the Irons are still short of a rather clinical striker to try and take them to a place in the Europa League.

However, it appears they could have an opportunity to bring a player they were linked with almost 12 months ago to the Premier League this summer.

What’s the News?

According to Ciro Venerato, who told Rai TV’s ‘Calcio Mercato’ program (via areanapoli.it), Roberto Inglese could leave Napoli this summer, with West Ham and Atalanta thought to be at the front of the queue.

It is claimed that the Serie A outfit’s chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis has set a minimum price of 20million (£17.2m), although it is mentioned that is just to begin negotiations and could therefore cost the Hammers a little more.

The Verdict:

Inglese has been in fine form for Parma this season as he spends the campaign on loan with the Serie A outfit, having recorded eight goals and one assist in his 22 appearances and could be an ideal forward for West Ham to bring to the London Stadium.

The 27-year-old has proven that he can find the back of the net on a regular basis in Italy’s top-flight over the past couple of seasons, having reached double figures in the two previous campaigns and looks set to match that this year.

He is a player that has excellent positioning when in the box and possess the movement that can cause defenders plenty of problems within 18 yards of goal, as he can time his runs to perfection. Those traits could mean that he thrives from the creativity that can be provided by the likes of Anderson and Manuel Lanzini.

There are doubts surrounding the futures of the current crop of attackers in east London, with Marko Arnautovic (who ended talk about a move to China by signing a new deal), Andy Carroll (who has just a few months left on his current deal), Javier Hernandez and Lucas Perez all believed to have attracted interest elsewhere in the past.

With a figure of around £17.2m being suggested as a potential starting point for negotiations, he could turn out to be a steal for West Ham and help fire them into European competition in the near future.
