West Ham to return for Edin Dzeko in the summer

If there were an area of the field that needed serious upgrading at West Ham United in the summer, the forward’s department would have to be one that needs immediate attention by those in power at the London Stadium.

The likes of Marko Arnautovic, Javier Hernandez, Lucas Perez and Andy Carroll have simply not been consistent – or good enough – for the Hammers this season, which has led to rumours surrounding a possible new frontman that Manuel Pellegrini could target.

What’s the News?

According to a report by Calciomercato, West Ham are believed to be interested in going back for AS Roma’s Edin Dzeko in the summer transfer window.

The Hammers were understood to have been ‘very interested’ in the Bosnia and Herzegovina international in January and could bring him to the London Stadium for a fee between €15million and €20million (£12.7m and £17m), however, Inter Milan are also said to be keen in him.

The Verdict:

West Ham need to make an addition (or two) when it comes down to their options in the final third and there would not be many better than Dzeko available for the club to try and sign this summer.

The Bosnian has plenty of experience of playing in the top-flight, whether that be in England or Italy, and has consistently been able to find the back of the net on a regular basis regardless of who he has been playing for, which would solve a problem the Hammers have had.

Dzeko would be able to provide a physical and tall presence in the penalty area as the likes of Felipe Anderson and Manuel Lanzini could look to put balls into the box on a regular basis for him to get on the end of.

A man that knows Pellegrini well from their time together at Manchester City, the pair could immediately form an understanding once again, which could help to ease any possible transition that the striker may have to undertake, allowing for him to make an impact as soon as possible at the London Stadium.

However, there would be a question over his age, as he is 32-years-old, meaning that he is unlikely to be a long-term fix for the Irons, although there is no doubt that he would be a great option to have in the squad, especially if he is available for a transfer fee between £12.7m and £17m.

West Ham fans, do you think Dzeko still has what it takes to lead a Premier League side? Should the club look to bring him to the London Stadium in the summer? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
