West Ham supporters in the Transfer Tavern were left to reflect upon another defeat for their side at the weekend.
Slaven Bilic’s men lost each of their opening three Premier League matches to increase the pressure on the Croat, but they hit back with a welcome victory over Huddersfield Town, before drawing 0-0 away at West Brom over a week ago.
A 3-0 success over Bolton Wanderers in the Carabao Cup followed, but their momentum was stemmed on Saturday after going down 3-2 at home to London rivals Tottenham, leaving Bilic’s men languishing in the Premier League’s bottom three.
Nonetheless, there may be some respite for our resident West Ham fans if a recent report from The Daily Mirror is anything to go by, which suggests that the East London outfit are in the race for MK Dons starlet Dylan Asonganyi.
The 16-year-old has been in scintillating form for the club’s Under-18 side so far this season, bagging nine goals in seven matches for the Dons in the Youth Alliance league, helping them to top spot and seven wins from eight games in the Southeast division.
And his fine goal-scoring form for the team has reportedly attracted the interest of West Ham and several Premier League heavyweights, with the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal, and Liverpool also thought to be keeping tabs on the forward.
Thus, Asonganyi is clearly set for a big future in the game, but where he ends up after MK Dons very much remains to be seen.
Landlord’s verdict: Dylan Asonganyi has been making huge strides for MK Dons this season, with nine goals in seven Under-18 matches indicative of his enormous potential and wonderful talent.
And it’s talent that Slaven Bilic’s West Ham, as well as other Premier League sides, are reportedly keeping an eye on ahead of a possible move in the future, with the Hammers knowing particularly well how important nurturing youngsters is for the progression of the club.
Fending off the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United won’t be easy, but with West Ham’s history of developing young talent, and the likelihood of first team football earlier, Asonganyi may well look at the Hammers as the perfect option to fulfil his undoubted potential.
