West Ham United confirm signing of former Fulham ace

Petric

West Ham United supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern have been left drowning their sorrows recently.

They’ve been hitting the hard stuff after learning the news that £15 million summer signing Andy Carroll has injured his ankle in training and could miss the rest of the campaign.

The former Liverpool forward was expected to make his first appearance of the season at Southampton on Sunday but now Sam Allardyce has been left searching for striking options.

The Hammers have now announced the signing of former Fulham forward Mladen Petric, on their official website, as emergency cover for Carroll after the Croatian international forward passed a medical this lunchtime.

The striker featured for Premier League rivals Fulham last season but was released by manager Martin Jol after struggling for a regular starting berth at Craven Cottage despite a promising beginning with the cub.

West Ham said in a statement: “West Ham United can confirm Andy Carroll suffered an injury to his right foot during his return to full training today.

“Although it is in the same part of his foot as his previous injury, it is a new injury and therefore there will be no prognosis until he has seen a specialist.”

There are now suggestions that Carlton Cole could return to Upton Park although the Irons fans in the bar are far happier to see Petric arrive ahead of this weekend rather than the former England striker who only found the net twice last season.

Is Petric a shrewd signing by the Hammers? Could they be left ruing spending £15 million on Carroll? Let us know your thoughts below.
