Fans of West Ham United have been reacting to a post on Twitter, which relayed the comments of young West Ham defender Ben Johnson.
Speaking following West Ham’s 2-2 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday, in which Johnson scored his first-ever senior goal, the £1.8 million-rated 20-year-old stated his desire to ‘stay in the team’, before claiming that he needs to ‘live right off the pitch’ and ‘listen to the manager and the other coaching staff’.
The right-back, who has played seven times for David Moyes’ side across all competitions so far this season, has been at West Ham since the age of seven and is beginning to become a more regular fixture in the first team, having made his debut for the club as a 19-year-old back in February 2019.
And, after West Ham United’s official Twitter account relayed the defender’s comments, many fans of the club flocked to have their say about the 20-year-old’s words.
Do you think Johnson should keep his place in the starting XI?
So, what exactly did these West Ham United fans have to say in reaction to Ben Johnson’s comments?
“So, so pleased for the lad. Gutted the U23s aren’t getting chances on the bench with their enforced lockdown. Fingers crossed we get to see a few more youngsters break through #GSBOUT”
“What an assured confident young man. “Need to live right off the pitch as well as on the pitch” is just the perfect attitude to have. Well done Ben”
“Ben Johnson is absolute class. Massive congratulations for the goal geezer. He definitely deserves to be one of the first names on the team sheet v Saints and in general. COYI”
“Good lad. The only bright spot about yesterday”
“Fantastic to see kids from the academy getting a chance”
“Love seeing players come through the academy and playing for the first team, even better when they bag a goal! Hopefully another gem for the future.”
