Many West Ham United fans have been discussing an update from Roshane Thomas that recently emerged on social media.
The Athletic journalist’s latest tweet revealed that signing a striker in January remains a priority for the Hammers, but young forward Mipo Odubeko has trained with the Hammers’ first-team this week and Sebastian Haller’s departure to Ajax could give him a chance to impress under David Moyes in the short-term.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano has already confirmed that Haller is now set to leave West Ham to join Dutch giants Ajax for a fee of €25 million (£22.5 million). He revealed that the striker has agreed personal terms with the Amsterdam-based side and that he is set to undergo a medical at the club too.
Should Odubeko get a chance in the first-team?
18-year-old Odubeko had joined West Ham as a free agent in October 2019 and is a product of the Manchester United youth academy. The young centre-forward has already impressed in the EFL Trophy this season, scoring twice in one game. He has a very good record for the club’s Under-18s too, contributing to 11 goals in seven games.
For the Under-23s, he’s also done very well and has scored three times in two matches. His stats look to be a reflection of how he’s a reliable goalscorer at a pretty tender age.
Thomas’ tweet about Odubeko caught the attention of many West Ham fans, who began talking about him.
What did West Ham fans make of Odubeko’s tweet?
“Can’t wait to see @mipoodubeko get his chance.”
“Got a good feeling about this lad for some reason.”
