According to recent reports, West Ham United have joined Arsenal and Leicester City in a transfer battle for AS Roma defensive midfielder, Amadou Diawara.
The report by LaRoma42 (via The Sun) claims that Diawara, who was reportedly close to joining Leicester in the summer, will be available to purchase for around £15 million in January, and that West Ham could make a move for the 23-year-old if they end up selling Declan Rice.
However, The Sun suggest that it appears more likely that Brendan Rodgers’ side will return for the midfielder, who only joined Roma from Napoli in what was an £18.9 million deal in the summer of 2019.
Transfer Tavern Take
Considering it has been reported that Rice’s rumoured move to Chelsea does not look overly likely to go ahead this January, as West Ham are preparing to offer the midfielder a ‘double your money’ new deal, as well as impressing in the Premier League, currently occupying sixth place – prior to Tuesday evening’s fixtures – it’s hard to imagine Diawara is top of the priority list.
That said, if Rice’s situation changes then the Hammers could swoop for the Roma man at just £15m and likely make a hefty profit along the way to invest in other areas.
