West Ham United hope £12m is enough to land fifth signing

Yevhen Konoplyanka

West Ham United fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are pleasantly surprised to hear the latest news from the Daily Star.

The reports claim that the club have made a big money offer for a player who has previously caught the attentions of Liverpool, Tottenham and Manchester United.

The Hammers are said to have launched a £12 million bid for Dnipro’s Ukraine international winger Yevhen Konoplyanka who came close to signing for Liverpool on the final day of the January transfer window.

The 24-year-old has also been monitored by Tottenham and Manchester United over the past 12 months.

Konoplyanka is regarded as the next big star of Ukrainian football, but has previously stated his desire to play in the Champions League – something the Hammers are unable to offer.

The Upton Park club have activated the winger’s release clause, but a deal remains a long way off with personal terms still to be discussed.

Sam Allardyce has been busy in the transfer market so far this summer, adding four new additions to his Hammers squad thus far.

Mauro Zarate, Cheikhou Kouyate, Aaron Cresswell and Diego Poyet have all moved to Upton Park so far this summer, but a deal to bring in Konoplyanka would be seen as something of a marquee signing for the Hammers boss.

West Ham fans. Do you think your club has a realistic chance of signing Yevhen Konoplyanka this summer or is Allardyce simply wasting his time? Let us know your thoughts below.
