Goals from Mohamed Diame, Carlton Cole and Joe Cole helped to lift the pressure on Sam Allardyce in what he had described as a ‘season-defining week’. The Hammers now travel to Crystal Palace on Tuesday in a must-win match, one that can be seen live on BT Sport.
Now the Irons supporters by bar have been left even more enthusiastic following the latest transfer reports arriving in the tavern.
The Mirror suggests that West Ham are planning to sign Stoke City striker Kenwyne Jones in a £2 million January deal as Allardyce seeks a recognised centre forward to keep his side in the Premier League.
Summer signing Andy Carroll is still expected to be missing through injury until at least the New Year and in recent weeks the Irons have played without a striker in a formation that unsurprisingly hasn’t brought goals.
A move for the 29-year-old, who is currently out of favour, at Stoke under Mark Hughes, seems to make sense to the Hammers in the bar with the former Sunderland man having a consistent strike rate in the elite English league.
The Trinidad & Tobago international’s contract runs out at the Britannia Stadium in the summer and that could see him make the switch to Upton Park for a bargain £2 million when the window opens.
