The Arsenal and Everton supporters are enjoying teasing the West Ham fans in the Football Transfer Tavern this evening.
They find it hilarious that the Hammers faithful have been promised attacking football and one of the first names mentioned for a possible move to Upton Park is a defensive midfielder.
A leopard can’t change it’s spots quips one of the protagonists and they could be right with the Daily Express reporting that the East London club want Gareth Barry.
The former England international – who is now a free agent – has offers from Everton and Arsenal, but it’s the Hammers that are believed to be putting together improved terms over a two-year deal.
Everton and Arsenal have both offered Barry about £50,000-a-week but the 33-year-old knows that his playing time at the Emirates Stadium could be minimal.
West Ham however would offer Barry a wage closer to £65,000-a-week and would offer regular football.
And the deal could yet come off with the Hammers famed for their ability to hand long and expensive contracts to players who have their best days behind them.
