According to The Mirror, his Toronto FC boss has admitted that Jermain Defoe could be transferred back to the Premier League in January despite being in the middle of a four-year deal.
This news has got punters talking in the tavern and many believe his potential destination will either be Queens Park Rangers or West Ham United.
With QPR narrowly missing out on his services during the summer, it is thought that Harry Redknapp will be desperate to capture his man who he previously managed at Tottenham, Portsmouth and West Ham.
Hammers boss Sam Allardyce hopes to add to his squads’ firepower after their bright start to the season and will hope the acquisition of Defoe will keep the squad’s momentum high as they head into the latter stages of the season.
Also to add to the 32-year-old’s desire to leave the MLS, he hopes to get his international career with England back on track and hopes a move back to the Premier League will reignite his chances of pulling on a Three Lions shirt again.
Despite the Englishman being rumoured with a departure from Canada, Tim Leiweke, the president of Toronto FC’s parent company, says that Defoe is fully focused on getting the club into the play-offs.
But he added: “As to what happens during the next transfer window, we’ve all agreed we’ll put it on hold and talk about that in December.”
