West Ham United fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are not shocked that Carlton Cole was left fuming on transfer deadline day as the Daily Mail explained how Sam Allardyce blocked the move after the Hammers failed to sign their top transfer target on loan.
Cole must have been livid when he received a call on deadline day at 10.55pm from Allardyce whilst he was at West Bromwich Albion’s training ground to say the deal was off after the Hammers’ bid to sign Emmanuel Adebayor collapsed in London.
This meant that the 31-year-old missed out on £5 million contract as well as fresh start at The Hawthorns and this frustration was immediately directed at Allardyce as Cole tore into his manager over the phone but since the argument they have spoke and the situation has since cooled down.
A potential reprieve for Cole is that Andy Carroll has been ruled out for for the rest of the season meaning he only has to battle Enner Valencia and Diafra Sakho for a starting berth now.
Cole noted: “Mark Noble and Kevin Nolan said to me it would be something else if I could score the winner at West Brom for West Ham given what went on in the transfer window.
“I was upset at the time because I wasn’t playing here as much as I wanted to.
“So when a team shows interest in you and offers you game time and it doesn’t come off you might react this way.”
West Ham fans. Are you happy Cole will be remaining until the end of the season? Let us know your thoughts below.
