The former Chelsea and England midfielder has revealed to talkSPORT that he has left the East London outfit after he was not offered a contract extension.
Midfielder Cole signed on a free from Liverpool back in January 2013 but he has found it a lot harder to feature in the team on his return to Upton Park.
He may have made a substitute appearance at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday against title winning Manchester City but it was to be his farewell game for the Hammers.
And in truth it summed up Cole’s situation at the club with the former England midfielder only able to notch up a few substitute appearance here and there.
Many of the West Ham faithful love Joe Cole but agree that he shouldn’t have been signed with the club having a history paying ageing players too much in terms of wages.
Cole of course came through the clubs’ academy alongside Premier League legends such as Frank Lampard and Rio Ferdinand but Cole never really lived up to the hype despite playing for both Chelsea and Liverpool.
But 32-year-old Cole has not given up on football yet and insists he still has a few season ahead of him with a big-money move to North America’s MLS said to be in the offing.
