West Ham fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are worried about heading into the opening Premier League weekend with a lack of firepower, after striker Enner Valencia picked up a serious injury during a Europa League qualifier last week.
New Hammers boss Slaven Bilic is prepared to enter the transfer market for a new striker, and reports from the Daily Mirror suggest he has set his sights on popular QPR forward Charlie Austin, who is valued at around £15 million.
Austin enjoyed a superb Premier League campaign last season, scoring 18 league goals – and he has since become one of the most sought after strikers in the English game.
However, that figure was not enough to prevent Rangers from sliding into the Championship, and now it appears the Hammers are ready to offer him a Premier League lifeline with a short move across the capital.
Newcastle, Southampton and Tottenham have all been linked with Austin, but have so far been put off by the £15million valuation. The publication also claims Bilic may offer 29-year-old winger Matt Jarvis as a makeweight in any potential deal.
Hammers fans here in the Tavern admit they would love to see Austin plying his trade at the Boleyn Ground next season, and are confident the club can pull of this deal!
