Speaking recently to Sky Sports Italy, Angelo Ogbonna discussed his time at West Ham United and touched on his future plans.
Since moving to West Ham from Juventus in a £9.9 million deal back in 2015, Ogbonna has gone on to feature 174 times for the club, chipping in with 11 goals and providing one assist along the way.
So far this season, the £4.5 million-rated centre-back has made 16 Premier League appearances for David Moyes’ side, scoring two goals and averaging a WhoScored match rating of 6.71 – ranking him as the club’s 11th-best performer in the top flight.
And, in a recent interview with Sky Sports Italy (via Alfredo Pedulla), the defender said: “This is a year of redemption, with Moyes the team is more balanced… I still see England [in my future], I still have two years on my contract. Then, in football, you never know.”
Would Ogbonna be missed if he were to leave West Ham?
Transfer Tavern Take
Considering the fact that Ogbonna is now 32-years-old, and, thus, will be 34 by the time his West Ham contract expires in the summer of 2022, it would appear rather unlikely that the centre-back will be in line for another big move prior to hanging up his boots, however, perhaps the Italian international is lining up a move to a league like the MLS, where the pace is slightly slower.
And, considering the fact that fellow West Ham player Pablo Fornals has described Ogbonna as ‘one of the best centre-backs‘ he has played with, as well as stating that the defender is ‘big‘ and ‘tough‘, perhaps he still has a bit more to offer in the heart of defence, be that at West Ham or elsewhere.
