West Ham United want Ligue 1 maestro as third signing

Mathieu Valbuena (France):

The West Ham United fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are in fits of laughter today.

That’s after the Daily Mail claimed that Hammers boss Sam Allardyce is interested in signing French international playmaker Mathieu Valbuena this summer.

It says a lot about a club when even the fans find a move for a special talent so implausible.

But apparently the Hammers are indeed exploring the possibility of landing the diminutive midfielder, who is rated at £8 million.

The 29-year-old is rumoured to be keen on a move to the Premier League and his agent has recently revealed that Valbuena is considering leaving French club Marseille this summer.

“He has a contract with Marseille and they are not a small club, they are a big club in France,” Jean-Pierre Bernes told French radio station Europe 1.

“But it is true that given his performances, and if there is the opportunity with a club, it is something we will examine and Marseille as well.

“Nothing is set, there is no destination fixed, there are contact with certain clubs in different European leagues.

The East London side have of course already brought Mauro Zarate and Cheikhou Kouyate to Upton Park so far this summer.

Irons fans. Sam Allardyce doesn’t have the ability to pull off this amazing signing, does he? Let us know your thoughts below.
