West Ham United winger could have played for Tottenham Hotspur

antonio3West Ham fans getting in a few early before they watch their side in the Monday Night fixture are reading an article in the Daily Mirror with relief, after its been revealed that new signing Michail Antonio could have been playing for London rival’s Tottenham had it not been for his mum.

The pacey winger who moved to West Ham over the summer for a fee of £7m, claims Tottenham wanted to sign him after a trial at the age of 14 but he mum wouldn’t let him. He explains that she made him put his education first. If he had been travelling to Tottenham in the evenings to train he would not be getting home until after midnight and still had to attend school the next day. It wasn’t a feasible option for the winger.

Antonio went to college and graduated with a diploma in sport, and very nearly went to University to study sports science before he joined Reading in 2008.

The 25-year-old could be set to make his debut for his new club tonight as they taken on Newcastle at Upton Park, and he will be hoping he can hit the floor running. The winger already has 4 goals this season in the Championship for Nottingham Forest after a bright start to the campaign, and our landlord here in the Tavern feels the ex-Reading winger will take the Premier League by storm!
