West Ham United’s record signing sees move to Spain collapse

Andy Carroll West Ham fans in the Football Transfer Tavern have almost completely forgotten about Andy Carroll, such has been the fitness problems of their record signing since he moved to Upton Park.

Carroll has been sidelined for the start of the season once again, but that has not stopped La Liga giants and Europa League champions Sevilla expressing an interest in the target man.

The one-time England international was poised to move to Sevilla on a season long loan, with the Hammers signing forward Simone Zaza from Juventus.

However, that proposed £11.5million move has collapsed, meaning Carroll’s shock move to Spain has been put on hold, according to the Daily Mail.

With Zaza staying at Juventus, last season’s Champions League finalists were able to sanction a move for Fernando Llorente to Sevilla, meaning Carroll will now stay at Upton Park and try to get back to full fitness.

It remains unclear as to what his role at the club will be when he eventually does return, with new Hammers boss Slaven Bilic chasing a striker still.

It has been a frustrating window for the Hammers, with targets such as Raul Jiminez, Charlie Austin and Javier Hernandez all failing to materialise into a transfer.

Our resident Hammers fans enjoying a pint over by the bar here in the Transfer Tavern feel that Carroll still has a big part to play at the club, but just wish he wasn’t so injury prone!
