West Ham United would certainly benefit from adding some creative options in their midfield in the summer as they need to create more opportunities in the final third.
Manuel Pellegrini already has a number of playmakers in his squad, however, it appears he has another one on his radar ahead of a potential move in the upcoming transfer window.
What’s the News?
According to Fanatik, West Ham are interested in signing Hakan Calhanoglu from AC Milan this summer.
The Serie A outfit are understood to have put the Turkey international up for sale and are believed to want €30million (£26m) for the set-piece specialist.
However, the Hammers are not thought to be the only Premier League side to be interested in the 25-year-old, with Leicester City also believed to be keen on him.
There is no doubt that Calhanoglu can be an excellent signing for a number of clubs, especially given that he is available for a transfer fee around £26m – a figure that is relatively low considering how today’s market currently is.
The Turkey international is a maestro when it comes to set-pieces, having earned himself a reputation over dead-ball plays during his time at Bayer Leverkusen before moving on to AC Milan.
Calhanoglu hit eight goals and 11 assists for the Serie A giants last season and has continued to be in impressive form this year, having scored twice and provided his team-mates with nine assists.
Although creativity would certainly be welcomed at the London Stadium next season, whether the 25-year-old is the right type of player for Pellegrini to bring to the club is something that is rather questionable.
Predominantly a winger, the Hammers already have an abundance of options that can play in that position, with Felipe Anderson, Andriy Yarmolenko, Manuel Lanzini and Michail Antonio just some of the names available.
However, Calhanoglu has played in a central role for his country, so maybe he could thrive in that role for West Ham in the Premier League and give the central midfield an added dimension to their play.
West Ham fans, would you like to see Calhanoglu at the London Stadium? Do you think £26m is a good price for the set-piece specialist? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
