Away performances and West Ham United do not appear to marry up, do they? Manuel Pellegrini’s side failed to show up once again in the first half against Chelsea on Monday night, although they did finally manage to put in a better showing in the second half.
However, things have certainly improved for the Hammers over the course of the campaign, but additions will need to be made once again in the summer if they are to try and take things up another level and it appears the Hammers’ have someone on their radar.
What’s the News?
Goal are claiming West Ham are set to battle Bournemouth in the summer for Nathaniel Clyne, who is set to leave Liverpool at the end of the season.
The Red’s are believed to be prepared to accept a fee in the region of £15million and the Hammers believe he could be the ideal man to replace Pablo Zabaleta.
Clyne could be the exact type of player to successfully replace Zabaleta in the summer as the defender has bundles of experience of playing in the Premier League.
The Argentine appears to be on his last legs, whilst Ryan Fredericks has failed to make a real impression in the team when he has been given his opportunity.
Having joined Liverpool from Southampton in 2015, Clyne had been a key member of the squad at Anfield before injuries and the emergence of Trent Alexander-Arnold meant he would be on the fringes of Jurgen Klopp’s first-team.
The 28-year-old has been enjoying his time on loan at Bournemouth, where he has started to get regular minutes on the pitch once again and is starting to look like his best once again.
West Ham could have an advantage over the Cherries in the race for Clyne’s signature as well – with Goal suggesting that he could be tempted to head back to London after a number of years away from the capital.
In today’s transfer market, £15m would not have to be considered a hefty figure for a player who has arguably been one of the best right-backs in the country at some point during his career and could still offer plenty to the Hammers as they look to push forward with their ambitions.
West Ham fans, do you think Clyne could be an ideal replacement for Zabaleta? Or do you think the club should look elsewhere? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
