The West Ham United fans in the Transfer Tavern were yet again bemoaning their under-par defensive performance this weekend.
West Ham lost 3-2 to rivals Tottenham Hotspur, meaning that their record of thirteen goals conceded in the Premier League so far is the joint worst in the division.
The Irons could well be looking for defensive reinforcements in January, then, especially after James Collins was injured.
According to Calciomercato, West Ham United have been scouting Francesco Vicari and have been sufficiently impressed by what they have seen.
There has been positive feedback on his performances from West Ham’s representatives and this could mean that the East London outfit might follow this up and firm up their interest with a concrete bid in the upcoming transfer window.
The 23-year-old plays at the heart of defence for Serie A side SPAL and is earning plenty of plaudits for his performances this season.
The former Italy under-21 international could join fellow countryman Angelo Ogbonna at the back for the Hammers as they look to shore things up defensively in order to move out of the relegation zone and up the league table.
West Ham are set to watch Francesco Vicari in action a few more times before deciding whether he is worth a punt.
