West Ham United are interested in signing Wissam Ben Yedder this summer, according to ExWHUemployee.
Speaking on the latest episode of the West Ham Way podcast (Wednesday 10th June), the reliable insider revealed the Hammers had the Sevilla forward as one of their newest transfer targets.
Although the France international might be a new name this summer, he is not exactly a new face to those at the London Stadium.
According to Football.London, West Ham were in the race to sign Ben Yedder in the summer of 2016 when he was still at Toulouse. However, David Sullivan and then-manager Slaven Bilic believed he was too small.
The same publication also linked the forward’s name with a move to the club last January, when they suggested he would have been a costly target for Manuel Pellegrini’s side at the time.
Ben Yedder has been brilliant for Sevilla since his move from Toulouse and could be the forward that West Ham have been looking to have in their side. The Hammers have had 45 different strikers to try and be the man to score the goals regularly.
However, those figures may not be too surprising as he proved he has a knack for finding the back of the net on a regular basis during his Toulouse days as well. The four-time France international was just as prolific as he netted 71 goals in his 174 appearances for them prior to his switch to Spain.
As well as his exceptional finishing ability, WhoScored highlight skills with the ball, as well as holding it up, as strengths of his.
Pellegrini likes his Hammers side to play in a 4-1-4-1 formation (per WhoScored), so Ben Yedder’s ability to hold the ball would allow other attacking players to join in with him and try and create problems for the opposition defence.
