The West Ham United fans in the Transfer Tavern are a bit worried by their injury list at the moment. Marko Arnautovic and Manuel Lanzini are the latest big names to be ruled out for the Hammers, joining a long list which includes Winston Reid, Jose Fonte, Michail Antonio and Andy Carroll. With Diafra Sakho also out injured, West Ham are looking short in terms of attacking threat.
Therefore, David Moyes will be forced into the transfer market and he will be looking to sign a new attacker this month. A loan deal would be preferable as the Hammers need to use their money to bring in a central midfielder or two – such as Leander Dendoncker of Anderlecht or Newcastle United’s Jonjo Shelvey.
West Ham should join the likes of Newcastle United, Stoke City and West Bromwich Albion in the chase for Andre Schurrle. The Germany international could be available for loan this month after falling down the pecking order at Borussia Dortmund.
The versatile attacker would be perfect for the Hammers as he offers goals from the wing and he can also play up front. Javier Hernandez would thrive as well with the service that the former Chelsea man could provide.
Furthermore, West Ham would have a player with a point to prove in their ranks. If Schurrle can impress in his loan stint at West Ham, he could earn himself a future at Dortmund or a permanent contract at West Ham. And he would give himself a chance of making Germany’s squad for the World Cup this summer if he really impresses.
