West Ham supporters have been pretty upbeat in the Transfer Tavern in the last couple of days after seeing their team secure a deserved 1-1 draw from their trip to reigning Premier League champions Chelsea on Sunday.
David Moyes’ men went into their clash with the West London outfit off the back of thumping Southampton 3-0 in their preceding league encounter, yet having lost each of their three previous away league games. And the Hammers looked set for a fourth defeat on the spin away from the London Stadium when Cesar Azpilicueta gave Antonio Conte’s side the lead, only for Javier Hernandez to hit back in the second half to clinch a point for the East London club, who moved six points clear of the bottom three as a result.
Subsequently, there have been many delighted West Ham fans in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom are hoping their side can take another giant step towards safety when they host fellow strugglers Stoke City on Monday.
Yet several of our resident Hammers supporters are already looking ahead to the summer and what business their side may conduct, with many of the opinion that Blues striker Michy Batshuayi should reignite his Premier League career with a move to West Ham.
Ultimately, the 24-year-old has endured a difficult time at Stamford Bridge since his move from Marseille back in 2016, with the Belgium international starting just once for the Blues in their title-winning campaign last time round.
And with only three starts in the early phases of this season, it was clear that the young striker needed to get out of Chelsea to secure regular gametime ahead of this summer’s World Cup, which is exactly what he is doing at Borussia Dortmund with nine goals in 13 appearances so far.
However, with changes expected at Chelsea this summer, it very much remains to be seen whether Batshuayi can go back to Stamford Bridge and command regular football, and with the Blues likely to spend big next term in a bid to get back among Europe’s elite, it seems unlikely.
And that is why West Ham must seek to land the forward.
The Hammers have by no means the worst goal-scoring record in the Premier League this season, but after selling Andre Ayew and Diafra Sakho during the January window, and with Andy Carroll struggling with injury, further reinforcements are needed in the summer – that’s not to mention that Hernandez reportedly wants out of the club as well.
And while Batshuayi didn’t command regular starts at Chelsea, his goal-scoring record is still pretty good with 19 goals in 53 appearances for the Blues, thus underlining that, when given the chance, the Belgian star often performs.
And with the striking ranks somewhat depleted at the London Stadium, the £36 million-rated ace (as per Transfermarkt) may well get that opportunity to reignite his Premier League career were he to move to West Ham this summer.
