West Ham United fans in the Transfer Tavern will be delighted with the recent transfer activity happening at the London Stadium – however, they could be set to see one of their stars head in the opposite direction.
Manuel Pellegrini has been extremely active since arriving in East London to take over the Hammers, and has already made three signings, with more expected to come. The Chilean will also be looking at who he can offload this summer, but it appears one name that he may want to keep could head out of the door.
And that’s because, according to a report in The Sun, defender Declan Rice could be about to leave the Irons, what his contract stand-off and the arrival of Issa Diop plunging his future at the club into doubt, with Bournemouth and Crystal Palace reportedly keen on the Hammers youngster.
The Frenchman could see the 19-year-old lose his position in the pecking order further down the line, with Pellegrini not likely to consider the Irish defender as an automatic starter – this all despite the young defender doing his bit in helping the Hammers to a 13th place finish in the Premier League last season.
Landlord’s Verdict: The West Ham fans in the Tavern will be disappointed to see Rice leave, after they had grown to be impressed with some of his performances during a difficult Premier League season.
The 19-year-old, who made a few errors, is believed to have a solid future ahead of him, and the locals would have been hoping that the £9 million-rated ace (as per Transfermarkt) would be around for a number of years to come.
However, with the arrival of Diop and possibly a couple more on the horizon, it could be a good thing for the club and the player to cash-in whilst they still can, with interest said to be growing.
