West Ham fans in the Transfer Tavern are poking fun at our Chelsea punters, following recent comments from Jonathan Biabiany’s agent.
The 28-year-old winger, famed for his scintillating speed, is amid a third spell with Inter Milan but has made just three appearances so far this season – all coming in the Champions League’s group stages.
Antonio Conte, who knows the Frenchman well from his time in Serie A, unexpectedly attempted to sign Biabiany during the final days of the January transfer window – on loan until the end of the season with the view to a permanent deal.
Biabiany was seemingly being targeted as an alternative for the wing-back roles in Chelsea’s 3-4-3 system, with Victor Moses and Marcos Alonso both lacking obvious understudies on their respective flanks.
But speaking exclusively with Calcio Mercato, the winger’s agent has revealed the deal didn’t go ahead because Conte only made his move as the winter window came to a close.
Davide Bega said; “Yes, I can confirm that. Conte wanted him and personally talked to Jonathan to persuade him to move to Chelsea. Chelsea’s offer, however, was late. They called us on Sunday night and the transfer window was closing two days later. There was no time to finalize a deal.”
But perhaps more interestingly, Bega went on to suggest Biabiany would be interested in joining one of Chelsea’s London rivals – West Ham.
Whether that tempts Slaven Bilic into making an offer in the summer remains to be seen.
