West Ham supporters remain pretty buoyant in the Transfer Tavern over a week on from their team’s vital 2-0 win over Watford in the Premier League, a result which moved the East London outfit four points clear of the bottom three.
David Moyes’ men went into their clash with the Hornets off the back of going down 3-1 away at fellow strugglers Brighton, which brought to an end their solid six-match unbeaten run in the league. Yet the Hammers got back to winning ways last time out as goals from Javier Hernandez and Marko Arnautovic sealed all three points for Moyes’ side, moving them level on points with Javi Gracia’s Watford in the Premier League table, four points clear of the relegation zone.
Thus, there are many happy Hammers in the Tavern at present, eagerly anticipating their side’s trip to Liverpool on Saturday, yet they are also likely to be intrigued by a recent report from The Daily Record, which suggests that an agreement is in place to take Jose Fonte to Chinese Super League side Dalian Yifang.
The 34-year-old only made the move to the London Stadium back in January last year and has since gone on to make just 24 appearances for the Hammers, with just eight coming in the Premier League this season.
Injury has played a part in his struggles but he has been an unused substitute in each of their last three league games to suggest that he’s back to full fitness, but it looks like he is on his way out of the club as reports suggest that he has agreed a move to Chinese top tier side Dalian Yifang.
And while Fonte was reportedly made available for transfer during January, this news has somewhat come out of the blue, in news which is also likely to intrigue our resident Hammers supporters.
Landlord’s verdict: Jose Fonte has yet to feature under West Ham manager David Moyes since his appointment back in November, and while injury has played a part in that, he’s clearly not in the Scot’s first team plans.
And it appears that his 13-month stint at the London Stadium is coming to an end as reports suggest that the club are close to sanctioning his exit to Chinese Super League outfit Dalian Yifang, with Fonte reportedly having agreed to make the move.
And with the Portugal international struggling to impose himself on proceedings at West Ham in recent times, it’s a move which appears to be in the best interests of all parties involved.
