West Ham are reportedly set to bolster their forward line in the upcoming January transfer window.

The Hammers have made a decent start to life under Manuel Pellegrini who has instilled an attacking mentality in the squad since replacing David Moyes in the summer. The Chilean strengthened his team heavily during the summer transfer window and will be pleased to see his additions hit the ground running at the London Stadium.

Pellegrini should be hoping to replicate his great business in the upcoming window. According to reports, West Ham are expected to strengthen their forward line to ease the goalscoring burden on the shoulders of Marko Arnautovic. Top of their shortlist is Inter Milan forward – Gabriel Barbosa.

However, the Hammers would be better served in signing Atalanta star – Alejandro Gomez. Valued at £14.4m by Transfermarkt, the 30-year-old has been one of the standout stars in the Serie A in recent seasons. Gomez netted eight goals and registered 12 assists in all competitions last season and has continued his form into the new campaign.

The Argentine, who can play through the middle or on the wing, has found the back of the net six times and registered two assists already this season. Blessed with electrifying pace and expert dribbling ability, Gomez would be a nightmare for Premier League defenders. His eye for goal and dangerous long shot capability would give Pellegrini another top option in his forward line. Gomez would slot seamlessly into the 4-2-3-1 system making him a much more viable option than Barbosa who has failed to impress at the highest level so far.

Gomez and Arnautovic could form a partnership that could fire the Hammers into Europe.
