Manuel Pellegrini has some key decisions to make, doesn’t he? To keep up the chase for that seventh spot in the Premier League, the Hammers now must overcome Cardiff City today and the personnel which the Chilean chooses could decide the game.
West Ham United will be looking to build on last weekend’s victory over Newcastle United with another solid performance, this time in Cardiff.
However, getting the three points will not be easy, given the fact that Neil Warnock’s side are battling relegation and with three defeats on the bounce, they will be desperate to get something out of this fixture.
To help West Ham on their way, Pellegrini could opt to bench one player and hand another a start with a change of character in attack…
Bench Javier Hernandez
This may seem harsh given the fact that Hernandez impressed against Newcastle and even helped out with an assist, however, against such a physical opponent as a lone striker, he may struggle.
The Mexican international would be ideal for bringing in the latter stages of the game to further trouble a worn down Cardiff backline and inject more energy into the side rather than starting from the off.
Start Marco Arnautovic
Arnautovic has not started for over a month now and played under 70 minutes of football within February.
Despite that, it seems the perfect game to reintroduce him to the starting line-up. The 29-year-old will be able to hold his own physically and in the air, he can also bring other teammates into play as well as potentially snatching up any half-chances that may arise.
If he is to return to a starting role once again and add to his seven League goals this season, this game could be ideal for doing so.
