Carr recommended Newcastle re-sign Toon hero, player could be keen

No matter who the punters in the Transfer Tavern support (other than Sunderland), it seems West Ham United forward Andy Carroll is one of the most popular figures here.

The England international, despite his injury woe, is simply one of the most effective forwards in the Premier League when in full flow and the Hammers propping up the bar were surprised to see so many reports linking him with the Chinese Super League emerge of late.

Well, despite the fact the CSL has seen their transfer window shut, it seems transfer tidbit surrounding the 28-year-old refuse to go away. According to the Chronicle, Newcastle United scout Graham Carr has consistently recommended the Magpies make a move for their former star.

He left the Toon Army back in 2011 for a then English record fee of ¬£35m, though a relatively unhappy spell with Liverpool ended quickly and he latterly moved to east London. Though the report doesn’t suggest any move is in the offing, Carr does have a sway amongst power brokers on Tyneside, much to the chagrin of the fans in the bar.

Carroll himself could reportedly be keen on a move back to St. James’ Park, with the Championship leaders understood to have made enquiries in the past.

For their part, our resident Irons really hope he stays in Stratford.

Will Carroll return to Newcastle United? Let us know below…
