‘Could be our Harry Kane’ – West Ham fans demand Bilic tinkers with squad after slow start

The Hammers in the Transfer Tavern are calling for Slaven Bilic to promote Toni Martinez into West Ham’s first-team squad.

Wet Ham are sitting just above the relegation zone in 15th position after beginning the new season in relatively uninspiring fashion. Thus far, their disappointing season has been characterised by a lack of potency in the final third, with just 8 goals to their name from 8 Premier League fixtures.

West Ham’s summer acquisition of Mexican striker Javier Hernandez, affectionately known as ‘The Little Pea’, is currently the Irons’ top goalscorer with 3 goals. He stands alone as the only player on West Ham’s books to contribute more than a solitary goal so far.

With that in mind, the claret and blue faithful on Twitter believe they have found an internal solution to their goal-scoring problems, in the shape of 20-year old Spaniard Toni Martinez. Martinez returned to West Ham in May following a disappointing loan spell at League One’s Oxford United, where he scored just 1 goal in 15 league appearances.

His form at Oxford would suggest that he requires further improvement before he can harbour any realistic expectations of holding his own in the Premier League.

However, Martinez is certainly building a credible case for selection after scoring a hat-trick against Manchester United’s Under 23 side on Sunday at the London Stadium.

With Andy Carroll ruled out of the Irons next league fixture through suspension, there is every chance Martinez’s fine form for the Under 23s will be rewarded with a first team call up against Brighton this weekend.

Here’s what The Hammers had to say about Martinez on twitter…

What’s Toni Martinez gotta do to get a chance in the first team? Geeza’s unreal
