Let’s be honest, West Ham’s season was over in January. After being knocked out the FA Cup by League One side Wimbledon, the Hammers have just been seeing out their remaining fixtures. Oh, what fun.
They have had a few impressive results from then until now, beating Arsenal and Tottenham, drawing to Liverpool but ultimately, it hasn’t been the season to remember many thought it would be.
Manuel Pellegrini was entrusted with a £100 million war-chest and, although they clearly play nicer football and generally have a better collection of players, the Irons still aren’t where they want to be. It seems to be said every summer but this upcoming window, carries the utmost importance for West Ham.
To that end, if they spend wisely on players such as Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos, then already, West Ham’s squad will be better equipped to surge up the league table.
The 22-year-old was very highly-rated, hence his move to the Spanish capital in 2017. Although he hasn’t quite kicked-on the way some thought he might, Ceballos has made 34 appearances this season, showing that he is valued at one of the world’s best teams.
West Ham distinctively lack quality in the heart of midfield and the need for Dani Ceballos is obvious. His youthful legs allow him to elegantly cover every blade of grass and his end quality is very good as well. Think a total upgrade on Jack Wilshere.
With three goals and two assists this season, Ceballos has well and truly put himself on the market, should Real Madrid spend a fortune on new players this summer.
Do you agree Ceballos would make a good signing for West Ham? If not, why not? Join the discussion and let us know!
