West Ham have made the worst possible start to the season despite spending £100 million and recruiting a highly-regarded manager in Manuel Pellegrini.
The club were believed to be on the up after last season’s disastrous campaign but now it seems the Hammers are set for more of the same disappointment.
A manager of Manuel Pellegrini’s calibre wasn’t seen as a potential mistake and fans were elated with the appointment. On the pitch though, nothing has improved and they lack the basics like pressing and genuine desire to wear the shirt.
A player who would change that in the West Ham team is Chelsea’s Danny Drinkwater and he must be a target for the Hammers.
Danny Drinkwater, (who is valued at £18 million on Transfermarkt) has had a torrid time with Chelsea and that has even got worse in recent weeks, having seen himself get axed from the Europa League squad and without a space in the league squad either.
The Englishman has gone from being a midfield general at Leicester to a player who can’t even get a game and for someone of his quality, he has to be a target for a club like West Ham. Especially considering that the Hammers need a midfield talent in particular, Drinkwater needs to be in claret and blue this January.
As a more defensive-minded midfielder, Drinkwater could sit in-front of the backline protecting any danger that comes near but the 28-year-old also has the ability to spray the ball around the pitch, helping in attack as well.
West Ham should have signed him in the summer like they were rumoured to but after missing out, they have to go for round two in January.
